The job

The product specialist's job, seen from the floor

A product specialist does not recite a spec sheet. They grab attention in a few seconds, start the conversation and get people trying your product, then hand over to your sales team at the right moment. We select people who are comfortable with the public, curious about your brand and able to talk about it accurately, in French, Dutch or English.

In detail

Everything you need to know about promotional staff and product specialists

What is an event product specialist?

A product specialist represents your brand to the public for the duration of a trade show, an activation or a road show. They present your products, demonstrate them, answer questions and point each person to the offer that suits them. Their role goes beyond being friendly: they need to know your product well enough to talk about it accurately, and to spot the contacts that deserve your sales team's attention.

At Protéine, these assignments go to people selected for their ease with the public, their polished appearance and their languages. Since 1996, our teams have worked at more than 25,000 events in Brussels and across Belgium.

Promotional hostesses or product specialists: what is the difference?

Both terms often cover the same family of assignments, with a difference in the level of involvement:

  • A promotional hostess grabs attention, hands out samples or materials and makes the first contact.
  • A product specialist goes further: they explain, demonstrate, handle objections and qualify the request.

On most activations, we combine both profiles depending on your goals: visibility, product trial or lead generation.

Brand ambassadors who embody your brand

A brand ambassador is the face of your brand in the field. They adopt its tone, its codes and its dress, and they are how the public forms its first impression. Brands such as BMW, Audi, Porsche, Renault and Delvaux are among the clients who have called on our teams.

To keep the image consistent, outfits are adapted to your visual identity with our Mix & Match system and more than 50 accessory colours, or you can supply a custom outfit of your own.

Promotional staff in Brussels: demos, sampling and road shows

Our product specialists work on every promotional format:

  • In-store or shopping centre demos: getting people to try the product at the moment the customer decides.
  • Sampling: reaching the right audience, in the right place, with a clear message.
  • Road shows: the same team following your tour from city to city.
  • Event activations: festivals, sporting events, product launches.

At a trade show: from stand welcome to sale

At a trade or consumer show, the product specialist takes over from the welcome team. They engage interested visitors, demonstrate your products and qualify the contact before introducing them to your sales team. For stand welcome, badge handout and visitor directions, our trade show hostesses complete the set-up.

How many product specialists do you need on your stand?

The right number depends less on the size of the stand than on what you expect from each contact. Four questions are enough to size the team:

  • How many demo stations need to be staffed at the same time?
  • What footfall is expected at the show's peak hours?
  • Do you also need people to welcome visitors, scan their badges and hand out samples?
  • Does the show last one day or several, and with what opening hours?

Your coordinator works out the staffing with you during the scoping stage, combining event hostesses, promotional staff and product specialists if needed. For an activation repeated across several sites, we keep the same team from one site to the next wherever possible, so they grow more confident with your product.

How we prepare your product specialists

The quality of an activation is decided before the day itself. Every assignment starts with scoping your goals, followed by a detailed team briefing 24 to 48 hours before: your products, your key messages, your customers' frequently asked questions and the results you expect. On the day, a dedicated coordinator stays on site or reachable, and we offer you a debrief after the event.

What makes the difference on your activations

A community of more than 1,900 hosts, hostesses and stewards from which we choose the profiles closest to your brand. You can build a list of preferred profiles to see the same faces from one activation to the next.

Full Belgian compliance: contracts, Dimona declarations and NSSO (ONSS) obligations are handled by us.

No surprises on the day: a 24/7 emergency line, and a back-up plan in case of a last-minute absence.

Protéine works in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia. As standard, 5 working days are enough to set up an activation, and you receive a free quote within 24 business hours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about our services and the way we work.

What is the difference between a promotional hostess and a product specialist?

A promotional hostess makes the first contact: she grabs attention and hands out samples or materials. A product specialist goes further: they explain the product, demonstrate it, handle objections and qualify the request. We often combine both profiles depending on your goals, whether that is visibility, product trial or lead generation.

Do your product specialists know our products?

Yes, because we brief them before every assignment. Your dedicated coordinator organises a briefing 24 to 48 hours before the event: products, key messages, your customers' frequently asked questions and the goals of the activation. You can also provide your own training materials.

How far in advance should we book a promotional team?

For an activation or a road show, 5 working days are enough as standard. For a large trade show, allow 5 to 10 working days depending on the size of the stand. Last-minute requests are still possible through our emergency line, which is available 24/7.

Can the product specialists wear our brand outfit?

Yes. They can wear an outfit you supply, or an outfit adapted to your visual identity with our Mix & Match system and more than 50 accessory colours. Our catalogue is available on request, so you can choose the combination that best matches your brand.

Do you work outside Brussels?

Yes. Our teams work in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia, for one-day activations as well as road shows lasting several weeks. Our profiles speak French, Dutch and English, so your brand can address every audience in its own language, whichever region of Belgium you are targeting.
